about

This is basically my teenage music, with all the emotional turmoil etc. that the period brought with it. Very important music to myself, but (especially due to the technical limitations) not necessarily something that's easy or convenient to listen to.

All the tracks have been created using PC tracker software, miscellaneous samples (from a variety of different sources) and limited quality headphones (the means I could get my hands on back then) between 1995 and 1997, with many of the tracks accompanied by "lyrics" (in some cases even lyrics for actual vocals, but in many others some kind of "poems" that go with the music and maybe add something to it).

Technically or sound-wise it's often pretty "lo-fi" (or "draft quality"), but hopefully the "soul" of the pieces still comes through in some way also to others than just myself.

You can probably notice some elements familiar from the tracker, demoscene + game music and even Eurodance genres of the time, together with some types of synthesizer music and many other influences.

This album is the first part of a trilogy, followed by "Mirages" (sheobi.bandcamp.com/album/mirages) and "Vermillion Blue" (sheobi.bandcamp.com/album/vermillion-blue). It is the first album I compiled out of the 1994-1998 tracks. It's also the one that contains many of the tracks I myself consider significant and hold closest to my heart, "Underworld" for instance being a piece that I created right before leaving home, and other tracks (including the title track, "Slumberland") having strong emotional connections as well.

On the other hand, "Mirages" might be the technically most refined album in the series, and all three albums do contain important pieces.

The title track ("Slumberland") utilizes some samples recorded from our Yamaha portable electronic organ (probably the PS-25 model) which was my first keyboard instrument ever and which I also got quite attached to.

These three "teenage albums" have actually never been released in their entirety before 27.10.2017, although the info states the 6th-8th of June, 2001 as their release dates. Those dates are not exact either, but they're close enough to the time when I originally compiled the albums for release.

All the tracks listed here are potential candidates for new versions using more modern technology and improved skills. If you'd like to hear (or create) a new version of a particular track, please ping me about it!

credits

released June 6, 2001

Lauri Movall - composing, sequencing, vocals (between 1995-97), original mastering and collation of album art (in 2001), album art update (2017), remastering (in 2019).

Cubic Player was used to render the tracker modules into audio files in 2001, and the album was remastered later in December 2019.

Samples: As I am currently unable to link many of the samples used here to their original copyright owners, and much of the tracking information has been lost, please contact me if you know where they're originally coming from. Basically all the later (higher quality, 16-bit) samples are from products (official sample sets) I've paid for myself, but I don't want to upset anyone because of any of the older samples being used without explicit permission either!
